In order for any business to succeed it must do four things competently:
1. Sell a product or service that people are willing to buy.
2. Deliver that product or service at a price that people are willing to pay.
3. Get new customers to buy the product or service.
4. Organize and manage the activity for profit.
That is the very simple formula; and if you can competently do those things in business you will succeed and actually have very little competition. Most Business Owners get started by having a product or service that they believe in and are very passionate about—#2 above. Whether their business survives or not depends on how well they do the other three things.
Sadly enough, it often doesn’t matter how great the product or service is that determines if it survives in the marketplace or crashes and burns. The survival of the activity depends on the skill of the owner in the other three categories.
It is a fact of business life that the company doesn’t make more money than the Sales Department can sell. The quality of the product can be unmatched, the staff can be the friendliest in the world, the company is organized with the best computers and software; but if no one is selling and collecting money then the company struggles or goes broke and closes. This applies to a home-based business as well as the largest corporations in the world.

I graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1981. I learned how to sell, organize and manage my practice at a practice management company in 1992. Within twelve months my practice was in the top 4% nationally and I was semi-retired at age thirty-eight. I became a partner at the management company in December of 1993 and helped make that company, arguably, the largest in North America with thousands of clients in forty-eight states and five Canadian provinces.
I am now interested in training Sales Reps, Business Managers and Owners in any industry; so I started Matterhorn Business Development. Both of these activities keep me very busy but I still find time to carry on philanthropic endeavors internationally.
